Spirit of Compassion Award Recipients: Lawrence P. Anderson and Rep. Greg Harris

With images of sandy beaches and lush waterfalls filling the ballroom, over 800 guests enjoyed this year’s Annual Benefit Gala, Tropical Paradise, at the Chicago Hilton. Chaired by Drs. Frederman Concepcion and Rosibell Arcia-Diaz and co-chaired by Dr. Shameem Abbasy and Imtiaz Javed, the gala featured elegant dining, samba dancers and drummers from Planeta Azul, a large silent auction with one-of-a-kind items and dancing the night away to tropical rhythms. This year’s event raised over $830,000 for the Swedish Hospital Cardiology Department and its services.

When asked about the importance of the gala to the Cardiology Department, Event Chair, Dr. Concepcion stressed that, “Although our capacity to diagnose heart disease has never been greater, having reduced mortality from cardiovascular disease by 50%, heart and vascular disease remains a leading cause of death. It’s imperative that we continue to provide the highest level of cardiovascular care with the most advanced technology.” Thanks to our generous donors and sponsors, we will continue to offer state-of-the-art medical services to our cardiac patients.

During the event, we were honored to present the 2019 Spirit of Compassion award to two individuals who have given selflessly of themselves to improve the human condition of others, not only at Swedish Covenant Health, but throughout the world. This year’s Spirit of Compassion award was presented to Mr. Larry Anderson and Representative and House Majority Leader, Mr. Greg Harris.

Thanks to our generous Elite sponsors of this year’s Gala; Title Sponsor, SCH Medical Staff, Platinum Sponsor, Medical Express Ambulance Service, and Diamond Sponsors, Continental Electrical Construction Company, Covenant Ministries of Benevolence, Covenant Trust Company, North Park University, and PNC.
