Spirit of Compassion Award
In 2002, Swedish Covenant Hospital established its Spirit of Compassion Award. The award was created to give special recognition to those individuals “who have given selflessly of themselves to improve the human condition of others, not only at Swedish Covenant Hospital but throughout the world.”
This year, we were honored to present the 2014 Spirit of Compassion Award to Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, Project IMPACT and Swedish Covenant Hospital Employees.
Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, Project IMPACT
Since 1994, Lutheran Social Services of Illinois has operated Project IMPACT in the Emergency Department of Swedish Covenant Hospital. The program helps stabilize adults who come to the Emergency Department in acute psychiatric crisis (including substance abuse), 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The program helps to ensure that patients are safe from harm and links them to community treatment and resources. In addition to providing this care at no charge to the Hospital, the staff with Project IMPACT has successfully helped to decrease admissions and wait times for people in acute behavioral crises.
Swedish Covenant Hospital Employees
The 2,500 employees of Swedish Covenant Hospital demonstrate a commitment, not only to the hospital and its mission, but to providing the community with the care and services it needs to thrive. The genuine collaboration, support and care exhibited by our employees create an environment that allows each and every patient and visitor to receive the best possible care. It is this commitment to patients, and each other, that helps set Swedish Covenant Hospital apart. Swedish Covenant Hospital employees maintain an unwavering sense of pride, an attitude that exudes complete humility for the work that they do, and a personal commitment to live each day with a heart full of compassion.
