In 1886, a community hospital was born at the site of Foster and California Avenues in Chicago. It remains very much alive today and, with your help, will flourish for generations to come.
First known as the Swedish Home of Mercy, this brick farmhouse turned hospital, opened its doors seeking to serve the healthcare needs of the north-side community. Today, 125 years later, Swedish Covenant Hospital remains committed to the mission of caring for the sick and has radically advanced the healthcare delivered at Foster and California. Where we stand today is a tribute to the Swedish immigrants who poured their hearts into establishing this healing place.
Earlier this year Swedish Covenant was highlighted in U.S. News & World Report hospital rankings, receiving several accolades demonstrating our clinical and technological expertise as a leading hospital in Chicago.
- Ranked #17 of 121 hospitals in the overall best hospital rankings for the Chicago metropolitan area.
- Recognized as high performing nationally in 5 specialties: Cancer, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Pulmonology, Geriatrics, and Ear, Nose and Throat.
- 19 SCH physicians were included on the list of U.S. News Top Doctors and 2 physicians received “Top Doctor” badges for being rated in the top 1 percent in the nation in their specialties.
- Recognized as one of the nation’s “Most Connected Hospitals” due in large part to our advanced implementation of electronic medical records.
Past Annual Fund donations have been instrumental in supporting the creation of such patient-centered services as: a Balance Center, which offers patients with balance-related conditions a unique and comprehensive rehabilitation experience; an accredited Chest Pain Center, which has drastically improved the efficiency of treatment during the critical, early stages of a heart attack; a state-of-the-art operating room designed to accommodate the hospital’s robotic surgery program, and meet the growing demand for these minimally invasive procedures. Through these programs and numerous others, we are changing lives and promoting healing every day.
As a nonprofit community hospital, we depend on the generosity and compassion of donors to fulfill the hospital’s mission. You can play a role in impacting lives on Chicago’s north-side. I ask you to please consider a year-end Annual Fund gift in support of Swedish Covenant Hospital.
A tax-deductible gift toward the hospital’s Healing Environment Fund, or other areas of your choosing such as Cardiology or the Nursing Education Endowment, will help create and enhance additional programs and equip our staff with the tools to advance the hospital’s journey another 125 years.
Our patients are counting on us. Please join me in making a gift to Swedish Covenant Hospital Foundation today.
Warmest regards,
Paul Hawkinson
Chairman, Swedish Covenant Hospital Board of Directors
